1 Million Women Educated: My Journey from Refined Currency to Rich Girl Chronicles
Dear 2015 Bola,
You’ve decided to start a blog called Refined Currency, all about the new age of women and money. Your friend Misha helped you come up with the name while you were both sitting on her bed, then you went to register the company . At the same time, you wanted to grow your personal brand, so you built a website called The Sol Lifestyle. It covered fashion, finance, and feminism—because you absolutely love combining fashion and you studied Mathematics and Finance at uni so it's an obvious mix.
Although you’re very shy in a crowd and a lot of people mispronounce your name, you’re confident when you have to speak. Your first blog post on Refined Currency is about going to a Financial Times event where you get to meet the wonderful Claer Barrett, who later you ask to be your mentor, but bless her—she’s too busy and can’t do it.
Anyway, fashion and beauty are rising in the industry, and apparently, people are becoming millionaires through YouTube. You stick with finance, and in 2017, you start The Bola Sol Show. A lot of people don’t really understand what you’re doing, but you know you’ve had messages from others (guardian angels maybe?) telling you to start it. It goes well, but over the next two years, a lot changes, and your father passes away. That changes a lot, and not necessarily for the better. There are a lot of lessons you go through, and unfortunately, some of them you have to face alone because not everyone can really understand.
You put things on hold, and you get a bit nervous when your brother has to go to the hospital. You panic quite a bit internally, but he’s fine. Still, his having sickle cell always makes you anxious.
You spend the next few years working your way up the professional ladder, but it never seems to fully work for you. A few people tell you it’s not where you’re supposed to be, but you ignore them—what do they know? Did you know that some of these people are messengers from God, showing you where you should go next? There’s one particular lady you work with who keeps telling you that she’s had a dream of you wearing purple and being honoured. You think she’s a bit eccentric, but she’s sweet, and she has a good heart.
You’re going to meet a few people in the world who help you and whom you help in return. You even come across a wonderful woman called Lillian, who cosigns the name Rich Girl Chronicles in 2018. As you gain more notoriety online, you grapple with balancing 9 to 5 and 5 to 9, constantly trying to choose one over the other. Then God tells you that He can’t make a way for you if you don’t let go of the 9 to 5. It requires trust in Him. You’ve learnt a lot from the corporate world, but it’s time to shine your light.
Also in 2019/2020 you get a literary agent, she tells you we're going to work towards two book deals. At that point, we don't even have one, what is on about? Then in January 2020, Merky Books emails you after you've been seeing penguins everywhere for months.... In 2021 you release How To Save It and it does really well (in the middle of Covid). People are starting to take their finances seriously because well...the global economy has taken a hit. The PR requests keep rolling in. In 2022, you go into a meeting and there are 6 women there, they say you're the person to write Your Money Life. It's a 2-year process, in between that time you work full-time and become a Qualified Financial Adviser. Silly Bola, lol now you've forgotten to take care of your physical health! 2023 you get back on your fitness.
In 2024, Raphael (founder of UK Black Business Week) helps you bring back The Bola Sol Show, that means so much to you because you own your IP at TBSS! You’re also in a relationship with a man who loves and supports you very much. He’s intelligent, happens to be an IT whiz while you’re a finance whiz. Sounds like a great match, doesn’t it?
Now you’ve finally reached 1 million women educated across the UK and are ready to launch Rich Girl Chronicles and take it to West Africa, America, the Middle East, and of course the UK & Europe. Thank God you’ve been planning for a while, because you’re finally ready to walk into the destiny He has for you.
It won’t be easy, but it will always be worth it as long as you keep God first.
